Every artist dips his brush in his own soul and paints his own nature into his pictures.
— Henry Ward Beecher
When the travesty began in the Ukraine I could think of nothing else, despite the fact I don't even know anyone from that war torn country. Nonetheless, I painted from my heart a Ukrainian man and woman in the midst of angst, with buildings being consumed by fire and the shield of their flag wrapped around their shoulders. I then hung the final piece in my studio not knowing quite what to do with it. Shortly thereafter, I met a lovely Ukrainian man in Philadelphia only to find out that both he and his brother are very involved in the Ukrainian community in his neighborhood. I subsequently donated my painting to these very gracious people, where it now proudly hangs in the Ukrainian League.
